Samuel Taylor Coleridge - Forbearance

Samuel Taylor Coleridge - Forbearance

(Beareth all things.---1 Cor. xiii. 7.) br br br Gently I took that which ungently came, br And without scorn forgave:--Do thou the same. br A wrong done to thee think a cat's-eye spark br Thou wouldst not see, were not thine own heart dark. br Thine own keen sense of wrong that thirsts for sin, br Fear that--the spark self-kindled from within, br Which blown upon will blind thee with its glare, br Or smother'd stifle thee with noisome air. br Clap on the extinguisher, pull up the blinds, br And soon the ventilated spirit finds br Its natural daylight.
