Augusta Davies Webster - Miles and miles of here and there

MILES and miles of here and there br Our eager river forced its way, br Bent to be it knew not where. br br It had no rest in delay; br And for its haste it had no aim; br Wherefore go? But wherefore stay? br br Here and there led both the same; br By any winding it could make br Near its secret goal it came. br br When it reached the crystal lake br It knew its aim and found its rest; br All the miles were for love's sake. br br Mid the blue hills of the west br Our river lies in the lake's breast.
