Anonymous Americas - The Soldier's Grave

Breathe not a whisper here; br The place where thou dost stand is hallowed ground; br In silence gather near this upheaved mound - br Around the soldier's bier. br br Here Liberty may weep, br And Freedom pause in her unchecked career, br To pay the sacred tribute of a tear br O'er the pale warrior's sleep. br br That arm now cold in death, br But late on glory's field triumphant bore br Our country's flag; that marble brow once bore br The victor's fadeless wreath. br br Rest soldier, sweetly rest; br Affection's gentle hand shall deck thy tomb br With flowers and chaplets of unfading bloom br Be laid upon thy breast.
