George Sterling - To Katherine

George Sterling - To Katherine

Discerning its abode so fair, br So delicate with all of grace, br I deem thine eyes in truth declare br The inherent soul's abiding-place. br br But oh! 'tis harder of belief br To chink, illumined with thy smile, br That thou art made a child of grief, br A waif our careless hours exile. br br Yet such thou art. Thy spirit sighs br For vanished heavens that could not last— br A watcher of unchanging skies, br In lands and seasons of die past, br br Where Memory, with tireless sight, br Seeks upon unforgotten ways br Her visions holy with the light br Of irrecoverable days.
