George Sterling - Worship

Deny me not forever, for in thee br All beauty seems regathered and reborn br Thou art that rose whose garden is the morn, br The pearl whose beauty haunts the dreamland sea, br And that romance whose immortality br Endures our dreary planet but in scorn; br For thee the lyres of Eden wait forlorn br Ere yet thy coming set their music free. br br In what sincerity can I defend br Mine art's insistence of thy loveliness, br Tho' such be but the mortal shadow thrown br By soul on flesh! Before its light I bend br As one who holds his kindred none the less, br Yet who has worship for one face alone.
