George Sterling - At the Lily's Heart

George Sterling - At the Lily's Heart

Within me (roguish brother!) lives a faun br Demure as any whom Arcadian bees br Made drowsy with their murmur, or the sea's br Far thunder woke on some Illyrian dawn; br And he the blue-eyed dryad on the lawn br Would fain allure with woodland sorceries, br But thou shalt see him on his bended knees, br O goddess by the bitter years withdrawn! br br Lo! Passion here puts by her scarlet wreath, br And yet abideth Passion. In thy kiss br Nobility and rapture blend their hues br As stars might fashion in the flowers beneath br A symbol of my worship and its bliss, br Enmirrored for a night in earthly dews.
