Oliver Goldsmith - Epitaph On Thomas Parnell

Oliver Goldsmith - Epitaph On Thomas Parnell

THIS tomb, inscrib'd to gentle Parnell's name, br May speak our gratitude, but not his fame. br What heart but feels his sweetly-moral lay, br That leads to truth through pleasure's flowery way! br Celestial themes confess'd his tuneful aid; br And Heaven, that lent him genius, was repaid. br Needless to him the tribute we bestow -- br The transitory breath of fame below: br More lasting rapture from his works shall rise, br While Converts thank their poet in the skies.
