William Henry Ogilvie - A Little Bit of Garden

William Henry Ogilvie - A Little Bit of Garden

We need no crown or sceptre, br for now that it is spring, br just a little bit of garden- br and every man's a king! br br A little breadth of border, br a little patch of grass, br above it all the April sky br where soft the south winds pass. br br A spade and rake for comrades, br the smell of rain-wet mould,- br and every time we turn a clod br we turn a mint of gold. br br A little bit of garden, br with daffodils a-swing, br and tulip-flowers whose crimson flags br are only flown for spring. br br Shy blossoming primroses, br forget-me-nots of blue, br and here a blade and there a blade br of green things peeping through.
