Archibald Lampman - Amor Vitae

Archibald Lampman - Amor Vitae

I love the warm bare earth and all br That works and dreams thereon: br I love the seasons yet to fall: br I love the ages gone, br br The valleys with the sheeted grain, br The river's smiling might, br The merry wind, the rustling rain, br The vastness of the night. br br I love the morning's flame, the steep br Where down the vapour clings: br I love the clouds that float and sleep, br And every bird that sings. br br I love the purple shower that pours br On far-off fields at even: br I love the pine-wood dusk whose floors br Are like the courts of heaven. br br I love the heaven's azure span, br The grass beneath my feet: br I love the face of every man br Whose thought is swift and sweet. br br I let the wrangling world go by, br And like an idle breath br Its echoes and its phantoms fly: br I care no jot for death. br br Time like a Titan bright and strong br Spreads one enchanted gleam: br Each hour is but a fluted song, br And life a lofty dream.
