Archibald Lampman - Snowbirds

Archibald Lampman - Snowbirds

Along the narrow sandy height br I watch them swiftly come and go, br Or round the leafless wood, br Like flurries of wind-driven snow, br Revolving in perpetual flight, br A changing multitude. br br Nearer and nearer still they sway, br And, scattering in a circled sweep, br Rush down without a sound; br And now I see them peer and peep, br Across yon level bleak and gray, br Searching the frozen ground,- br br Until a little wind upheaves, br And makes a sudden rustling there, br And then they drop their play, br Flash up into the sunless air, br And like a flight of silver leaves br Swirl round and sweep away.
