Felicia Dorothea Hemans - The Home Of The Spirit

Felicia Dorothea Hemans - The Home Of The Spirit

Answer me, burning stars of night, br Where is the spirit gone, br That past the reach of human sight, br As a swift breeze hath flown? br And the stars answer'd me: 'We roll br In light and power on high; br But of the never-dying soul br Ask that which cannot die.' br br O many-toned and chainless wind, br Thou art a wanderer free; br Tell me if thou its place canst find, br Far over mount and sea? br And the wind murmur'd in reply: br 'The blue deep I have cross'd, br And met its barks and billows high, br But not what thou hast lost.' br br Ye clouds that gorgeously repose br Around the setting sun, br Answer - Have ye a home for those br Whose earthly race is run? br The bright clouds answer'd: 'We depart, br We vanish from the sky; br Ask what is deathless in thy heart br For that which cannot die.' br br Speak, then, thou voice of God within, br Thou of the deep low tone; br Answer me, through life's restless din - br Where is the spirit flown? br And the voice answer'd: 'Be thou still; br Enough to know is given; br Clouds, winds, and stars br their br part fulfil; br br Thine br is to trust in Heaven.
