George MacDonald - Blessed Are The Meek, For They Shall Inherit The Earth

George MacDonald - Blessed Are The Meek, For They Shall Inherit The Earth

A quiet heart, submissive, meek, br Father, do thou bestow, br Which more than granted, will not seek br To have, or give, or know. br br Each little hill then holds its gift br Forth to my joying eyes; br Each mighty mountain then doth lift br My spirit to the skies. br br Lo, then the running water sounds br With gladsome, secret things! br The silent water more abounds, br And more the hidden springs. br br Live murmurs then the trees will blend br With all the feathered song; br The waving grass low tribute lend br Earth's music to prolong. br br The sun will cast great crowns of light br On waves that anthems roar; br The dusky billows break at night br In flashes on the shore. br br Each harebell, each white lily's cup, br The hum of hidden bee, br Yea, every odour floating up, br The insect revelry- br br Each hue, each harmony divine br The holy world about, br Its soul will send forth into mine, br My soul to widen out. br br And thus the great earth I shall hold, br A perfect gift of thine; br Richer by these, a thousandfold, br Than if broad lands were mine.
