Eugene Field - Long Meter

Eugene Field - Long Meter

All human joys are swift of wing br For heaven doth so allot it br That when you get an easy thing br You find you haven't got it. br br Man never yet has loved a maid, br But they were sure to part, sir; br Nor never lacked a paltry spade br But that he drew a heart, sir! br br Go, Chauncey! it is plain as day br You much prefer a dinner br To walking straight in wisdom's way-- br Go to, thou babbling sinner. br br The froward part that you have played br To me this lesson teaches: br To trust no man whose stock in trade br Is after-dinner speeches.
