George MacDonald - Hard Times

George MacDonald - Hard Times

I am weary, and very lonely, br And can but think-think. br If there were some water only br That a spirit might drink-drink, br And arise, br With light in the eyes br And a crown of hope on the brow, br To walk abroad in the strength of gladness, br Not sit in the house, benumbed with sadness- br As now! br br But, Lord, thy child will be sad- br As sad as it pleases thee; br Will sit, not seeking to be glad, br Till thou bid sadness flee, br And, drawing near, br With thy good cheer br Awake thy life in me.
