James Whitcomb Riley - The Little Fat Doctor

James Whitcomb Riley - The Little Fat Doctor

He seemed so strange to me, every way-- br In manner, and form, and size, br From the boy I knew but yesterday,-- br I could hardly believe my eyes! br br To hear his name called over there, br My memory thrilled with glee br And leaped to picture him young and fair br In youth, as he used to be. br br But looking, only as glad eyes can, br For the boy I knew of yore, br I smiled on a portly little man br I had never seen before!-- br br Grave as a judge in courtliness-- br Professor-like and bland-- br A little fat doctor and nothing less, br With his hat in his kimboed hand.
