Ben Jonson - To My Book

Ben Jonson - To My Book

It will be looked for, book, when some but see br  Thy title, br Epigrams br , and named of me, br Thou should'st be bold, licentious, full of gall, br  Wormwood and sulphur, sharp and toothed withal, br Become a petulant thing, hurl ink and wit br  As madmen stones, not caring whom they hit. br Deceive their malice who could wish it so, br  And by thy wiser temper let men know br Thou art not covetous of least self-fame br  Made from the hazard of another's shame- br Much less with lewd, profane, and beastly phrase br  To catch the world's loose laughter or vain gaze. br He that departs with his own honesty br  For vulgar praise, doth it too dearly buy.
