William Watson - Prelude

William Watson - Prelude

The mighty poets from their flowing store br Dispense like casual alms the careless ore; br Through throngs of men their lonely way they go, br Let fall their costly thoughts, nor seem to know.- br Not mine the rich and showering hand, that strews br The facile largess of a stintless Muse. br A fitful presence, seldom tarrying long, br Capriciously she touches me to song- br Then leaves me to lament her flight in vain, br And wonder will she ever come again.
