Robinson Jeffers - Life From The Lifeless

Robinson Jeffers - Life From The Lifeless

Spirits and illusions have died, br The naked mind lives br In the beauty of inanimate things. br br Flowers wither, grass fades, trees wilt, br The forest is burnt; br The rock is not burnt. br br The deer starve, the winter birds br Die on their twigs and lie br In the blue dawns in the snow. br br Men suffer want and become br Curiously ignoble; as prosperity br Made them curiously vile. br br But look how noble the world is, br The lonely-flowing waters, the secret- br Keeping stones, the flowing sky.
