Sydney Thompson Dobell - He Is Safe

Sydney Thompson Dobell - He Is Safe

'And it shall come to pass at eventide br There shall be light.' Lord, it hath come to pass. br As one day to the world so now to me br Thine advent. My dark eve is white as noon; br My year so sour and green is gold and red; br Mine eyes have seen Thy Goodness. All is done. br br br All things bespeak an end. I am come near br The crown o' this steep earth. My feet still stand br Cold in the western shadow, but my brow br Lives in the living light. The toil is o'er, br Surely 'He giveth His beloved Rest.' br br br I feel two worlds: one ends and one begins. br Methinks I dwell in both; being much here, br But more hereafter: even as when the nurse br Doth give the babe into the mother's arms, br And she who hath not quite resigned, and she br Who hath not all received, support in twain br The single burden; ne'ertheless the babe br Already tastes its mother. Lord, I come. br Thy signs are in me. 'He shall wipe away br All tears:' Thou see'st my tears are wiped away. br 'There shall be no more pain:' Lord, it is done, br Here there is no more pain. 'The sun no more br Shall be their light by day:' even so, Lord, br I need no light of sun or moon! My heart br Is as a lamp of jasper, crystal-clear, br Dark when Thy light is out, but lit with Thee br The sun may be a suckling at this breast, br And milk a nobler glory. Lord, I know br Mine hour. This painful world, that was of thorns, br Is roses. Like a fragrance thro' my soul br I breathe a balm of slumber. Let me sleep. br Bring me my easy pillows, Margery. br I am asleep; this oak is soft: all things br Are rest: I sink as into bliss. O Lord, br Now lettest Thou Thy servant depart in peace.
