Letitia Elizabeth Landon - The Minister

Letitia Elizabeth Landon - The Minister

DIM thro' the sculptured aisles the sunbeam falls br More like a dream br Of some imagined beam, br Than actual daylight over mortal walls. br br A strain of music like the rushing wind, br But deep and sweet br As when the waters meet br In one mysterious harmony combined. br br So swells the mighty organ, rich and full, br As if it were the soul br Which raised the glorious whole br Of that fair building, vast and wonderful. br br Doth not the spirit feel its influence, br All vain and feverish care, br All thoughts that worldly are, br Strife, tumult, mirth, and fear are vanished hence. br br The world is put aside, within the heart br Those hopes arise br Thrice sacred mysteries, br In which our earthly nature has no part. br br Oh, Christian Fane, the soul expands in thee, br Thine altar and thy tomb br Speak of the hope and doom br Which leads and cheers man to eternity.
