Wilfrid Scawen Blunt - Natalia’s Resurrection: Sonnet VII

Wilfrid Scawen Blunt - Natalia’s Resurrection: Sonnet VII

But where he fared and how, it matters not. br He and his mourning ere a month had run br Were out of mind with all and clean forgot, br Kinsman and friend and foe: save only one, br Only Natalia. She with tightened breath br Heard his name spoken in reproof's vain way br And gave her melancholy soul to death. br Foolish Natalia, who in love's full day br Had spent her grief, had nothing now to give br Of greater woe to her soul's agonies. br Living she yet had hardly dared to live. br She had wept dry the fountains of her eyes, br And never on her sorrow broke a gleam br Of that assuagement tears on others stream.
