The merciless fire devoured br The house of my childhood games. br br I needed to overcome sorrow, br And sailed on the golden-mast boat. br br I played on my beautiful flute to br The high rising moon in the sky. br br The moon, by my singing, got saddened, br And covered herself with a cloud. br br Then I turned my eyes to the mountain, br But had no more songs on my mind. br br It seemed : all the joys of my childhood br Were burned in the flames of my home. br br I wished in despair for the refuge br That water could offer to me. br br A sudden reflection of a woman br Slid by like the one of the moon. br br And should she sincerely desire br And should the moon kindly approve br br I’m willing to build a new house br In th’ woman’s mysterious heart.
