Caroline Elizabeth Sarah Norton - The Mourners

Caroline Elizabeth Sarah Norton - The Mourners

LOW she lies, who blest our eyes br Through many a sunny day; br She may not smile, she will not rise-- br The life hath past away! br Yet there is a world of light beyond, br Where we neither die nor sleep-- br She is there, of whom our souls were fond-- br Then wherefore do we weep? br br The heart is cold, whose thoughts were told br In each glance of her glad bright eye; br And she lies pale, who was so bright, br She scarce seemed made to die. br Yet we know that her soul is happy now, br Where the saints their calm watch keep; br That angels are crowning that fair young brow-- br Then wherefore do we weep? br br Her laughing voice made all rejoice, br Who caught the happy sound; br There was gladness in her very step, br As it lightly touched the ground.
