Charlotte Smith - Sonnet LXXVII. To The Insect Of The Gossamer

SMALL, viewless aeronaut, that by the line br Of Gossamer suspended, in mid air br Float'st on a sun beam--Living atom, where br Ends thy breeze-guided voyage;--with what design, br In ether dost thou launch thy form minute, br Mocking the eye?--Alas! before the veil br Of denser clouds shall hide thee, the pursuit br Of the keen Swift may end thy fairy sail!-- br Thus on the golden thread that Fancy weaves br Buoyant, as Hope's illusive flattery breathes, br The young and visionary poet leaves br Life's dull realities, while sevenfold wreaths br Of rainbow-light around his head revolve.
