Amy Lowell - Absence

Amy Lowell - Absence

My cup is empty to-night, br Cold and dry are its sides, br Chilled by the wind from the open window. br Empty and void, it sparkles white in the moonlight. br The room is filled with the strange scent br Of wistaria blossoms. br They sway in the moon's radiance br And tap against the wall. br But the cup of my heart is still, br And cold, and empty. br br When you come, it brims br Red and trembling with blood, br Heart's blood for your drinking; br To fill your mouth with love br And the bitter-sweet taste of a soul.
