Henry Vaughan - The Dwelling-Place

Henry Vaughan - The Dwelling-Place

John 1:38-39 br br What happy secret fountain, br Fair shade or mountain, br Whose undiscovered virgin glory br Boasts it this day, though not in story, br Was then thy dwelling? Did some cloud, br Fixed to a tent, descend a shroud br My distressed Lord? Or did a star, br Beckoned by Thee, though high and far, br In sparkling smiles haste gladly down br To lodge light and increase her own? br My dear, dear God! I do not know br What lodged Thee then, nor where, nor how; br But I am sure Thou dost now come br Oft to a narrow, homely room, br Where Thou too hast but the least part: br My God, I mean my sinful heart.
