Thomas Parnell - On The Trust

Thomas Parnell - On The Trust

Think England what it is to shake, br & better use your King, br His power raisd the frozen snake, br & Must he when he hears it speak, br find how the tongue can sting? br Trustees you make in long debates, br Which he is forcd to give; br While by your trust the rebell getts, br The subject looses bought estates, br & the oppressors live. br Pitty us heaven, & lend your aid, br Anothers intrest sett us free, br & now it gives us slavery, br Thus weakness is a property, br & Greatness still obeyd. br The men whose heavy arms we feel br By Politicks are good or ill, br Deceiving, or deceivd; br Their law is founded on their will, br & our's by that inslavd. br Against their princes acts they rise, br & in their princes name; br The sly intreaguing factions choice, br & erring patriots shame. br So Dunghill foggs by fiery rays br To saucy empire scale, br Obscure the royall planetts face, br With pride supply a lofty place, br & with out pitty fall.
