John Newton - Peter Walking Upon The Water

John Newton - Peter Walking Upon The Water

A Word from Jesus calms the sea, br The stormy wind controls; br And gives repose and liberty br To tempest-tossed souls. br br To Peter on the waves he came, br And gave him instant peace; br Thus he to me revealed his name, br And bid my sorrows cease. br br Then filled with wonder, joy and love, br Peter's request was mine; br Lord, call me down, I long to prove br That I am wholly thine. br br Unmoved at all I have to meet br On life's tempestuous sea; br Hard, shall be easy; bitter, sweet, br So I may follow thee. br br He heard and smiled, and bid me try, br I eagerly obeyed; br But when from him I turned my eye, br How was my soul dismayed! br br The storm increased on every side, br I felt my spirit shrink; br And soon, with Peter, loud I cried, br Lord, save me, or I sink. br br Kindly he caught me by the hand, br And said, Why dost thou fear? br Since thou art come at my command, br And I am always near. br br Upon my promise rest thy hope, br And keep my love in view; br I stand engaged to hold thee up, br And guide thee safely through.
