John Newton - The Milch Kine Drawing The Ark : Faith's Surrender Of All

The kine unguided went br By the directest road; br When the Philistines homeward sent br The ark of Israel's God. br br Lowing they passed along, br And left their calves shut up; br They felt an instinct for their young, br But would not turn or stop. br br Shall brutes, devoid of thought, br Their Maker's will obey; br And we, who by his grace are taught, br More stubborn prove than they? br br He shed his precious blood br To make us his alone; br If washed in that atoning flood br We are no more our own. br br If he his will reveal, br Let us obey his call; br And think whate'er the flesh may feel, br His love deserves our all. br br We should maintain in view br His glory, as our end; br Too much we cannot bear, or do, br For such a matchless friend. br br His saints should stand prepared br In duty's path to run; br Nor count their greatest trials hard, br So that his will be done.
