John Newton - The Refuge, River, And Rock Of The Church

He who on earth as man was known, br And bore our sins and pains; br Now, seated on th' eternal throne, br The God of glory reigns. br br His hands the wheels of nature guide br With an unerring skill; br And countless worlds extended wide, br Obey his sovereign will. br br While harps unnumbered sound his praise, br In yonder world above; br His saints on earth admire his ways, br And glory in his love. br br His righteousness, to faith revealed, br Wrought out for guilty worms, br Affords a hiding place and shield, br From enemies and storms. br br This land, through which his pilgrims go, br Is desolate and dry; br But streams of grace from him o'erflow br Their thirst to satisfy. br br When troubles, like a burning sun, br Beat heavy on their head; br To this almighty Rock they run, br And find a pleasing shade. br br How glorious he! how happy they br In such a glorious friend! br Whose love secures them all the way, br And crowns them at the end.
