Ernest Christopher Dowson - Autumnal

Ernest Christopher Dowson - Autumnal

Pale amber sunlight falls across br The reddening October trees, br That hardly sway before a breeze br As soft as summer: summer's loss br Seems little, dear! on days like these. br br Let misty autumn be our part! br The twilight of the year is sweet: br Where shadow and the darkness meet br Our love, a twilight of the heart br Eludes a little time's deceit. br br Are we not better and at home br In dreamful Autumn, we who deem br No harvest joy is worth a dream? br A little while and night shall come, br A little while, then, let us dream. br br Beyond the pearled horizons lie br Winter and night: awaiting these br We garner this poor hour of ease, br Until love turn from us and die br Beneath the drear November trees.
