Thomas Traherne - Aspiration (excerpt)

Thomas Traherne - Aspiration (excerpt)

Unto the spring of purest life br Aspires my withered heart, br My soul confined in this flesh br Employs both strength and art, br Working, struggling, suing still br From exile home to part. br … br Where all the saints themselves shall shine br As bright as brightest sun, br In fullest triumph crowned they br To mutual joys shall run, br And safely count their fights and foes br When once the war is done. br br For being freed from all defect br They feel no fleshly war, br Or rather both the flesh and mind br At length united are, br For joying in so rich a peace br They can admit no jar. br br Who know the Knower of all things, br What can they choose but know? br They all behold each other's hearts, br And all their secrets shew; br One act of will and not of will br From all their minds do flow br br Though all their merits diverse be br According to their pains, br Yet love doth make that every one's br Which any other gains, br And all which doth belong to one br To all of them pertains.
