Larry Levis - The Map

Larry Levis - The Map

Applying to Heavy Equipment School br I marched farther into the Great Plains br And refused to come out. br I threw up a few scaffolds of disinterest. br Around me in the fields, the hogs grunted br And lay on their sides. br br br You came with a little water and went away. br The glass is still on the table, br And the paper, br And the burned scaffolds. br * br You were bent over the sink, washing your stockings. br I came up behind you like the night sky behind the town. br You stood frowning at your knuckles br And did not speak. br * br At night I lie still, like Bolivia. br My furnaces turn blue. br My forests go dark. br You are a low range of hills, a Paraguay. br Now the clouds cover us both. br It is raining and the movie houses are open.
