Henry King - SONNET. The Double Rock

Henry King - SONNET. The Double Rock

Since thou hast view'd some Gorgon, and art grown br A solid stone: br To bring again to softness thy hard heart br Is past my art. br Ice may relent to water in a thaw; br But stone made flesh Loves Chymistry ne're saw. br Therefore by thinking on thy hardness, I br Will petrify; br And so within our double Quarryes Wombe, br Dig our Loves Tombe. br Thus strangely will our difference agree; br And, with our selves, amaze the world, to see br How both Revenge and Sympathy consent br To make two Rocks each others Monument.
