Henry King - SONNET. VVere thy heart soft as thou art faire

VVere thy heart soft as thou art faire, br Thou wer't a wonder past compare: br But frozen Love and fierce disdain br By their extremes thy graces stain. br Cold coyness quenches the still fires br Which glow in Lovers warm desires; br And scorn, like the quick Lightnings blaze, br Darts death against affections gaze. br O Heavens, what prodigy is this br When Love in Beauty buried is! br Or that dead pity thus should be br Tomb'd in a living cruelty.
