Mathilde Blind - Lines

THOU camest with the coming Spring! br With swallows, and the murmuring br Of unloosed waters, with the birth br Of daisies dimpling the green earth. br br And when the perfect rose of June br Responded to the golden noon, br My heart's deep core, suffused with bliss, br Broke into flower beneath thy kiss. br br But now the swallows seaward fly, br The winds in chorus wail, 'Good-bye!' br The dead leaves whirl, and like a leaf br My heart shakes on the gusts of grief. br br And yet awhile earth's flowerless breast br In lethal folds of snow will rest; br On thee too heart, with all thy woe, br Death falls one day like falling snow.
