Mathilde Blind - A White Night

Mathilde Blind - A White Night

THE land lay deluged by the Moon; br The molten silver of the lake br Shimmered in many a broad lagoon br Between grey isles, whose copse and brake br Lay folded on the water's breast br Like halcyons in a floating nest. br br And like a child who trusts in God br When in the dark it lies alone, br Stretched on the aromatic sod br My heart was laid against your own, br Against your heart, which seemed to be br Mine own to all Eternity. br br Lapped in illimitable light, br The woods and waters seemed to swoon, br And clouds like angels-winged the night br And slipped away into the Moon, br Lost in that radiant flame above br As we were lapped and lost in love.
