Francis Beaumont - The Indifferent

Francis Beaumont - The Indifferent

Never more will I protest, br To love a woman but in jest: br For as they cannot be true, br So, to give each man his due, br When the wooing fit is past br Their affection cannot last. br br Therefore, if I chance to meet br With a mistress fair and sweet, br She my service shall obtain, br Loving her for love again: br Thus much liberty I crave, br Not to be a constant slave. br br But when we have tried each other, br If she better like another, br Let her quickly change for me, br Then to change am I as free. br He or she that loves too long br Sell their freedom for a song.
