Robert Crawford - By The Sea.

Robert Crawford - By The Sea.

The heat is on the sea, and Noon br Has hushed the sounds upon the shore; br There is a silence evermore br That with the heart is so in tune br That ear and eye their senses steep br As if within a dreamy dew, br As charmed as when the bells of Sleep br To Night's church, Sweet, are calling you. br A sail far off hushed in the light br Comes into view and fades, as 'twere br Something that rose from slumber there: br E'en as a blind man musing might br Image a bird upon the wing, br The picture seems to us the same, br The whole bright noon around the thing, br As if it with the silence came. br And still we lie in the warm grass, br Our senses on the shining sea, br While thought like a sweet lethargy br Counts not the moments as they pass; br As time itself had ceased to stir, br The glamour here on everything br Grows one with us, as all things were br Where now no winds are wandering.
