Robert Crawford - Charon.

Robert Crawford - Charon.

Who goes across those waters br On which the Moon ne'er shone, br With the passenger he came for br As in a dream moved on? br Cypress and yews o'ershadow br The verge on either side, br Within whose boughs for ever br The winds of woe abide. br And all the air is haunted br With a wail that seems to flow br From the living lips of Sorrow br As the ages come and go. br The boatman, dumb and hoary, br Pulls with a steady pull, br And the dead man seems to listen br To voices beautiful. br And it may be the weird River br Has sights we cannot see, br And the far shore burns its signals br Of eerie mystery. br And Charon knows each signal — br Above the River's rim br The spectral lights that glimmer br Are pilot-stars for him.
