Harold Monro - The Bird at Dawn

Harold Monro - The Bird at Dawn

What I saw was just one eye br In the dawn as I was going : br A bird can carry all the sky br In that little button glowing. br br Never in my life I went br So deep into the firmament. br br He was standing on a tree, br All in blossom overflowing; br And he purposely looked hard at me, br At first, as if to question merrily : br ' Where are you going ? ' br But next some far more serious thing to say : br I could not answer, could not look away. br br Oh, that hard, round, and so distracting eye : br Little mirror of all the sky ! -- br And then the after-song another tree br Held, and sent radiating back on me.
