Franz Werfel - Morning Hymn

Franz Werfel - Morning Hymn

I am not dead. Through slit and crack br The piercing ray only glanced me, br And in the glow of self-possession br I survive once more once again. br br Through open shutters with waves surges br A blue that does not look blue to me. br Like a baby the air's nursed itself br Full of the sun's milk that melts down. br br On the sea a steamer's whistle br Blows like a rutting stag. br From mountains flashes a secret army's br Visible-invisible birth. br br I am not dead. I'd like to shout loud br On this day of who gets mercy, br That today each of my sails fills br Themselves once more once again.
