John Logan - Hymn VIII. When Jesus, by the Virgin brought

When Jesus, by the Virgin brought, br So runs the law of Heaven, br Was offer'd holy to the Lord, br And at the altar given; br br Simeon the Just and the Devout, br Who, frequent in the fane, br Had for the Saviour waited long, br But waited still in vain. br br Come, Heaven, directed, at the hour br When Mary held her Son; br He stretched forth his aged arms, br While tears of gladness run. br br With holy joy upon his face br The good old father smiled, br While fondly in his wither'd arms br He clasped the promised Child. br br And then he lifted up to Heaven br An earnest asking eye; br My joy is full, my hour is come, br Lord, let thy servant die.
