Lonnie Hicks - Me-Me

Lonnie Hicks - Me-Me

I am the Me-Me Princess br surrounded as I am by all of me br I hold fast to the idea br that nothing around me is very interesting, except me. br br Absorbed as I am with my own thoughts br I contend that the charm of this self-obsession br is nonetheless br more fascinating br than the mere complacency I see everywhere else. br br If I cannot espy my Hero Man br then I will have to suffice with me br and perhaps br marry myself br and spare myself br the agonies of love br the agonies of childbirth br perhaps skip it all br and go straight to my imaginary divorce br while congratulating myself br on my sagacity. br br Did I mention that to me br I am the thing most interesting? br br Don't scold me br because you know this might be true; br tell me who or what is more fascinating- br me or you? br br I am choosing myself because I am close at hand br and I can be my own best supplicant br who will admire me, love me, and never betray br Me knowingly. br br So I cross-leggedly languish, br do my nails br watch my programs br on my quilted throne br in my bedroom realm br watching the screen br filled up with all the other Me-Me's br who are the only one's br who really understand Me br even if they are not real br Me-Me's; br You see I am the only real one.
