Leonard Dabydeen - Always From The East

Leonard Dabydeen - Always From The East

Now the British comes to shore br wet and tired from colonial gatherings br he sits on the bench br in the park smoking a cigar br and watching ducks br play in a pool br falling asleep as the centuries br drift in a dream br wakes up looking at the carpet br being rolled out curry-stained br on the ruffled edges br in a corner Mahatma Gandhi br is eating dal and roti br and looking at the children br marking pages of the British constitution br they too eating br tandori naan and drinking chai br listening with intent br musical hummings of Rabindranath Tagore br and reading Gitanjali br as a new beginning br of the sun comes rising again br always from the East.
