Joe Rosochacki - Copernicus

Joe Rosochacki - Copernicus

I grew up a city br A city within Detroit city br I grew up a street br Which was called Charest br Across my house was the Hamtramck Junior High School named after Copernicus br I was taught, from a very early age, that Copernicus was father of 'modern' astronomy. br (For after all he was Polish) br Not Galileo but him. br He was berated by the Roman Catholic Church br for insinuating that the we don't live in a geo-centric solar system br Let alone a geo-centric universe br (After all we say 'sunrise' and 'sundown' even till today.) br Copernicus had envisioned rotation of planets, br the orbital path they take br Around the sun, br There is no sunrise or sunset, br --and Copernicus was right on! br He did this without a telescope. br And what's worse, br Alas, he was considered a heretic by the pope br -and died and was buried in paupers grave. br Lately, the Vatican has reconsidered it's admonition and rebuking of the truth, br (God is truth and truth is God, in essence the Church rebuked God) br Copernicus and Galileo have been justified br The church was wrong! br Flat Earth Society WHO? br There is an apparent horizon br There is no defining mark named horizon on globe br The earth is round. br br Anyway back to Copernicus, after being nearly half of a millennia, br He is finely going to have a proper burial including honors and headstone. br It's too bad that in the city which had featured his namesake 20th century school-- br His named was covered by signs which gave the new name of campus, br -it had been changed to Hamtramck High School.
