Gita Ashok - Across the Sahara

Gita Ashok - Across the Sahara

Miles and miles of sand br with no horizon in view, br the caravan moves on - br in search of an oasis. br br The heat is treacherous, br the sand is scorching, br the camels are tired br and so are the herdsmen. br br The journey is long, br the day will almost be gone br and darkness will reign again br until another day dawns. br br The desert’s dreadful distances, br the weather’s vicious whims and br the camels’ callous restlessness br all add to the herdsmen’s hardship. br br Roadless tracks br of sand and rocks br where tall, wild cactuses abound br with many stretching sand dunes around. br br The Sahara - br a natural oven - br bakes humans as well as camels br leaving scattered mortal remains. br br A sandy landscape br in shades of light fawn br with deceptive mirages - br inviting thirst again. br br The journey is long br with no sign of an oasis. br But the caravan must move on… br Inshallah – until we meet again.
