Margaret Alice - 2010/06/22 Angels

Overjoyed with a new computer just bought, br a laptop, my old one’s broken; I was stuck br in an icy kitchen with a go-nowhere screen, br now I can type where I want, in front of TV, br at the little school desk br br Watching Leonard Cohen’s DVD ‘Live in br London’ on the new PC, preparing dinner br in between, sound weak, volume low, when br he sings ‘Dance Me To The End Of Love’ br I cup my fingers over my ears to hear br br He sings ‘Tower Of Song’, I cry, he looks so br frail, so elegant, singing “I’m crazy for love” br saying the answer to life’s question is open br ended, leaving the mystery intact – a poet br to my own heart, he is clever, leaving it to br br a listener’s imagination, humble and cool, br I tried to capture the feeling in words but br they ran away, my cupped fingers made br recording thoughts inspired impossible br while typing on the old laptop anchored br br in the cold kitchen, tonight I want to watch br him singing with surround-sound on the big br screen, toasting him with vodkatini, paying br homage to everything he has been, still is br and always will be br br “I loved you when you opened a thousand br kisses deep”*, sounds too good to be true br but I share the dream when he sings ‘So br Long Marianne’; you say it is one of your br favourite songs of all time – br br when we forget to pray for the angels – br they forget to pray for us; I DANCE for the br angels to keep them amused so they won’t br forget to pray for me...
