Ray Hansell - Kent State Shootings

Ray Hansell - Kent State Shootings

Who can forget that tragic day br The year 1970, the month of May br br The National Guardsman’s poised on a hill br Their rifles aimed, ready to kill br br Gun fire soon filled the air br People screaming and running everywhere br br The Guardsman’s were shooting at will br People afraid to stand still br br Gun smoke drifted in the air br Bodies were scattered everywhere br br Four students lay there dead br Others wounded by the flying lead br br By now the cops were moving in br People were asking, where had they been? br br Untrained soldiers with loaded guns br Killing peoples daughters and sons br br Many people wondered what gave them the right br To move against the students with that much might br br Why did they shoot into a crowd like that br Knowing the students wouldn’t shoot back br br The students were armed with picket signs br But I wondered who committed the crimes? br br The students were marching against the war br What were the guardsmen’s even there for? br br A demonstration that took a bad turn br I wonder if any lessons were learned.
