Patti Masterman - A Face Looks So Carnivorous

A face looks so carnivorous br From the nostrils down: br An open, ravenous trap, br Half full or half empty br Gleaming with ivory shears br And threatened sharpness br Of incisors clicking. br br I fear it's raging hungers, this face; br It looks ghastly unkind br With tearing, strong molars, br An impertinent softness of tongue lurking br Concealing the violence till the last instant br While delicately testing br The perfect temperature of warm blood. br br Who says humans br Don't eat their young; br Things sometimes happen in the dark, br Late of night, things you'd never catch in daylight- br Why do some never have children at all; br Perhaps they became too fond of newborn flesh, br Delicate as the palest veal-calf of the restaurant. br br And it only looks human br When you add in some eyes.
